Green Star is Australia's foremost green building rating system, administered by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). It provides a comprehensive framework for assessing the sustainability of buildings across their lifecycle.
Green Star Rating Levels
Green Star rates buildings from 1 to 6 stars. Most projects target 4 stars (best practice) or 5 stars (Australian excellence).
Rating Tools
Green Star offers different rating tools: Green Star Buildings (new builds and major refurbishments), Green Star Interiors (fitout projects), Green Star Communities (precinct-scale developments), and Green Star Performance (existing buildings).
The Certification Process
Certification involves registering your project with the GBCA, assembling documentation across credit categories, submitting for assessment, and responding to any queries. The process typically takes 3–6 months from submission to certification.
